Use
Calcitonin is a peptide hormone produced by the C cells of the thyroid gland, involved in the regulation of calcium homeostasis by inhibiting bone resorption. It is used as a tumor marker for diagnosing and monitoring medullary thyroid carcinoma, a rare type of thyroid cancer that originates from the C cells.
