Cardio IQ Lp‑PLA2 Activity
Also known as: CardioIQ®, PAF-AH
Use
Lipoprotein‑associated phospholipase A₂ (Lp‑PLA₂) is an enzyme produced by macrophages and foam cells within the necrotic core of arterial plaque. Measurement of Lp‑PLA₂ activity assesses disease activity within the arterial wall under the calcified cap of the plaque. Elevated Lp‑PLA₂ has been associated with a two‑fold increased risk for developing coronary heart disease (CHD), and indicates a two‑fold risk of a CHD event (myocardial infarction, coronary revascularization, or CHD‑related death) ([questdiagnostics.com](https://www.questdiagnostics.com/healthcare-professionals/about-our-tests/cardiovascular/cvd-test-descriptions?utm_source=openai)).
