Use
Chimerism Transplant No Cell Sort is useful for determining the relative amounts of donor and recipient cells in a specimen post-bone marrow transplant. This serves as an indicator of transplant success by analyzing the presence of both donor and recipient cells and estimating the proportions of donor cells. The test employs short tandem repeat (STR) sequences as identity markers to distinguish between donor and recipient DNA before transplantation and after implantation for chimerism evaluation.
Special Instructions
The complete chimerism analysis requires 3 specimens under separate orders: CHRGB, CHIDB, and ADONO for pre-transplant. Post-transplant specimens include CHIMU or CHIMS. Specimens should be submitted promptly after collection, and all results are provided in an interpretive report. Specimen must arrive within 7 days of collection.
Limitations
Sensitivity of the analysis varies with donor and recipient cell proportions in the specimen. The results are approximate, rounded to nearest 5% or 10%. Matched related stem cell transplants may have identical STR patterns, leading to noninformative results. The test uses PCR and STR markers, and rare cases may yield identical profiles preventing chimeric status determinations.
