Use
This test assists in the detection of Chlamydia trachomatis in non-FDA-approved specimen types such as ocular swabs, nasopharyngeal swabs, and peritoneal fluid. It is particularly useful for screening and diagnosing Chlamydia trachomatis infections, which are the most prevalent bacterial sexually transmitted infections in the United States. Early identification of infection allows for prompt treatment, which reduces the risk of complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease in women and sterility in men. Screening is recommended for sexually active women aged 25 years or younger, older women with risk factors, and pregnant women.
Special Instructions
The test is not intended for medico-legal applications and is not suitable for detecting Chlamydia pneumoniae or other Chlamydia species. Specimen source is required for test processing. It is important to follow the specimen collection instructions carefully to avoid test rejection due to improper collection methods, and electronic ordering is preferred, or a Microbiology Test Request Form (T244) should be included.
Limitations
This test should not be used to assess therapeutic success or failure as nucleic acids may persist post-therapy. False-negative results may occur due to improper specimen collection, concurrent antibiotic therapy, or low organism numbers. In populations with low disease prevalence, positive results must be carefully assessed because false-positives may occur more frequently. The test does not detect Chlamydia pneumoniae or other Chlamydia species.

Collection Instructions
Swab the site using Aptima Multitest Swab or Aptima Unisex Swab. Place the collection swab in transport tube provided in collection kit, snap off swab at score line so it fits into the closed tube. Cap tube securely and label tube with patient's entire name and collection date and time.
Storage Instructions
Maintain swab container at 2 to 30 degrees C (refrigerate temperature is preferred); transport within 60 days of collection.
