Use
This test is used to optimize drug therapy and monitor patient adherence by measuring the levels of clozapine and its metabolites in the serum or plasma. It is particularly useful in determining therapeutic response and assessing potential toxicity. Clozapine is an antipsychotic used in the treatment of schizophrenia, and monitoring its levels helps in managing and adjusting dosages for therapeutic efficacy and minimizing side effects.
Special Instructions
For accurate results, specimen collection should be timed to predose (trough) draw at steady-state concentration. Contact ARUP Laboratories if you have specific questions.
Limitations
Therapeutic and toxic ranges are not well established in children. Clozapine concentrations between 100 and 700 ng/mL may not correlate with clinical response, and non-responsiveness can occur within this range. The test has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, and performance characteristics have been determined by ARUP Laboratories.
