Collagen Type VII Antibody, IgG by ELISA
Also known as: COLLAG 7
Use
The test is used to monitor disease in patients diagnosed with epidermolysis bullosa acquisita (EBA) or bullous lupus erythematosus who have increased IgG type VII collagen antibody levels. It is not intended as an initial diagnostic tool but rather for monitoring disease progression or changes. Initial diagnosis and discrimination among various immunobullous diseases are better served by using broader antibody panels such as the Immunobullous Disease Antibody Panel or Basement Membrane Zone Antibody Panel.
Special Instructions
For initial diagnosis and differentiation among various immunobullous diseases, broader antibody panels like the Immunobullous Disease Antibody Panel or Basement Membrane Zone Antibody Panel are preferred. Specimens should be shipped to the laboratory as soon as possible and stored refrigerated unless shipping promptly.
Limitations
The test is not suitable for initial diagnosis of immunobullous diseases as it may not detect antibodies to basement membrane zone antigens other than type VII collagen epitopes displayed in this ELISA. It also does not rule out other disorders with similar symptoms, such as anti-laminin-332 pemphigoid or anti-p200 pemphigoid, especially if associated with other conditions.
