Use
This test measures the levels of specific IgE antibodies to cultivated corn to aid in the diagnosis of allergic reactions to corn. The presence of IgE antibodies is indicative of sensitization to the allergen, which may correlate with clinical symptoms of an allergy. However, elevated IgE levels alone do not confirm a diagnosis of an allergy unless accompanied by a relevant clinical history. The test assists healthcare providers in distinguishing between allergic and non-allergic responses to corn exposure.
Special Instructions
This test uses the Thermo Fisher ImmunoCAP methodology, which is a widely recognized and validated technique for measuring specific IgE antibodies. Results should be used in conjunction with a clinical evaluation and should not be the sole basis for diagnosing allergic disease.
Limitations
The presence of specific IgE to corn may not correlate with the severity of allergic reactions. False positives may occur, and the cross-reactivity between different species of corn or similar proteins may result in obscure results. Additionally, the absence of specific IgE does not necessarily rule out an allergy. Other forms of diagnostic testing and clinical evaluation are recommended to fully assess suspected allergies.
