Use
The Cortisol, Four Specimens test is used to measure cortisol levels at specified intervals, typically as part of adrenal function testing. It helps in diagnosing conditions such as Cushing's syndrome, Addison's disease, and other disorders related to adrenal gland function. By measuring the cortisol at multiple times, healthcare providers can better understand cortisol dynamics and assess how it responds to changes throughout the day.
Special Instructions
Please refer to the directions for Sequential Sampling. Patients consuming biotin supplements should discontinue at least 72 hours prior to sample collection to avoid interference with the test results.
Limitations
The test may exhibit interference if the sample is collected from a person consuming high doses of biotin, also known as vitamin B7 or B8, vitamin H, or coenzyme R. Additionally, the minimum volume requirement does not allow for repeat testing, which may limit diagnostic follow-up if initial results are inconclusive.
