Use
The Creatinine, Urine - per 24h test is used to evaluate kidney function by measuring the amount of creatinine in a 24-hour urine sample. The test provides significant insights into the patient's renal status by estimating the creatinine clearance rate, an important marker of glomerular filtration rate (GFR).
Special Instructions
Collect 24-hour urine with refrigeration during collection. Also acceptable is random urine, but without reference intervals. Record total volume and collection time on transport tube and test request form. Specimens previously preserved with 6M HCl, boric acid, or 5 percent NaOH are also acceptable.
Limitations
This test must be used in the context of a 24-hour urine collection for accurate results. Deviations in collection time or volume can affect the interpretation of results. The test requires accurate recording of total volume and collection time to ensure correct calculation of creatinine clearance. Incorrect preservation or storage conditions may compromise sample stability, impacting result accuracy.
