Estrone, LC/MS/MS
Use
Estrone is primarily derived from metabolism of androstenedione in peripheral tissues, especially adipose tissue. Individuals with obesity have increased conversion of androstenedione to estrone, leading to higher concentrations. An increase in the ratio of estrone to estradiol may be useful in assessing menopause in women.
Special Instructions
Specify age and sex on test requisition. Norethindrone acetate/Norethisterone acetate is known to interfere with measurement and this test should not be used to quantitate estrone in patients taking this drug.
