Use
This test is used to assess the extrinsic and common coagulation pathways of blood coagulation by measuring factors such as II, V, VII, and X. It is valuable for diagnosing bleeding disorders due to deficiencies of these factors and for monitoring patients receiving replacement therapy. Abnormalities in these factors can predispose patients to severe bleeding risks.
Special Instructions
For optimal test results, it is crucial that plasma is separated from cells within 45 minutes post venipuncture to avoid clotting or other interference. If multiple tests are requested, please submit separate frozen specimens to prevent delays. It's essential to adhere strictly to the collection and handling instructions provided.
Limitations
This test may not detect all factor deficiencies, particularly those that are partial or subtle. It is primarily used to identify severe deficiencies. Factor activity levels might be affected by acute inflammation, vitamin K deficiency, or anticoagulant therapy, potentially leading to skewed results. The presence of inhibitors may also affect the outcome, requiring further differentiation testing.
