Use
The Factor IX Inhibitor Screen is used to detect the presence of specific factor inhibitors directed against coagulation factor IX. Such inhibitors can develop due to multiple transfusion exposures in hemophiliacs, certain disease states, or as a side effect of specific medications. Non-specific inhibitors may prolong tests like prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time. This assay is crucial for identifying qualitative inhibitors to coagulation factors in patients.

This test is not orderable directly and is typically ordered as a reflex test. Limitations
Occasionally, a potent lupus-like anticoagulant may cause false-positive results for specific factor inhibitors, such as factors VIII or IX. It is important to account for this possibility when interpreting results. The test may not be suitable for patients already undergoing anticoagulant therapy, as this could interfere with results.
