Use
The test is used to optimize drug therapy and monitor patient adherence for the medication Fluoxetine (commonly known as Prozac or Sarafem) and its metabolite, Norfluoxetine. This quantitative test determines the concentration of these compounds in serum or plasma, which is crucial for evaluating the therapeutic level and ensuring patient compliance with prescribed fluoxetine regimens, thereby aiding in effective therapeutic drug monitoring.
Special Instructions
This test is performed by a non-ARUP laboratory and is New York state approved. Clinicians are advised that it is unsuitable to use separator tubes for specimen collection. Transfer serum or plasma into the standard ARUP transport tube promptly after collection.
Limitations
The performance characteristics of this test were determined by NMS Labs and it has not been approved or cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration. Stability considerations must be noted: specimens are stable for up to 2 weeks at room temperature or refrigerated, and up to 9 months when frozen. Additionally, multiple separate specimens need to be submitted when ordering multiple tests because this specific test is not performed at the ARUP facility.
