Use
The Follicle-stimulating Hormone (FSH) test measures the level of follicle-stimulating hormone in the blood, which is critical for reproductive health. It plays a key role in the regulation of the menstrual cycle and the functioning of women's ovaries and men's testes. FSH levels can help diagnose or evaluate fertility problems, pituitary disorders, and menopausal status. It may be used to determine why a woman has irregular or stopped menstrual periods and why a man or woman has stopped producing eggs or sperm.
Special Instructions
Please refer to the directions for Sequential Sampling. There is a potential issue with biotin interference in this test. Patients should be cautioned to stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours prior to the collection of a sample, as high doses of biotin supplements may cause issues in the results.
Limitations
The test may show interference when a sample is collected from an individual consuming high doses of biotin supplements. Patients taking such supplements are advised to cease intake at least 72 hours before sample collection to reduce the potential for result interference. Testing interference caused by other herbal supplements or medications is not covered in detail, suggesting results should be interpreted with care for patients using such products.
