Gynecologic Pap Test (Image-guided), Liquid-based Preparation and Chlamydia/Gonococcus and Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) Types 1 and 2, NAA
Use
Diagnose primary or metastatic neoplasm; detect Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae; detect and type active HSV shedding.
Special Instructions
Ensure to include necessary patient information on the cytology test request form, such as date of birth, social security number, previous malignancies, drug or radiation therapy history, last menstrual period, and any other relevant clinical details. Note that this test may be subject to additional pathologist review if reactive, reparative, or atypical cells are detected.
Limitations
The test's effectiveness can be compromised if there is a failure to obtain adequate ectocervical, endocervical, or vaginal cell populations. Excessive use of lubricants during collection will interfere with cytologic examination. The test cannot effectively detect Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae unless specific procedures are used. HSV testing requires active viral shedding for accurate detection, and the test does not confirm the absence of a previous HSV infection.
