Use
Diagnose primary or metastatic neoplasm; detect Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae. This test aids in the diagnosis of sexually transmitted HPV infection. High-risk HPV test is used for types 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66, and 68, without differentiation of the individual type.

Limitations
Adequate cell population from ectocervical, endocervical, or vaginal sites is essential for evaluation. Excessive use of lubricating jelly can interfere with cytological examination. Liquid-based cytology samples are limited in volume available for reprocessing or additional testing, such as HPV testing. A negative result does not exclude HPV infection, as low infection levels or sampling errors can cause false negatives. This test detects only the 14 most common high-risk HPV types and not the specific type present. Testing for Chlamydia and Gonococcus requires special procedures at the time of collection, with insufficient sample volumes limiting post-submission additions.

Collection Instructions
Broom-like collection: Insert the brush into cervical os, rotate five times, rinse in PreservCyt solution. Brush/spatula technique: Insert brush into endocervical canal, rotate, rinse in ThinPrep vial, secure cap.
Patient Preparation
Avoid douching 48-72 hours prior to exam. Do not collect during or right after menstrual period.
Storage Instructions
Store at room temperature. Process Pap within 21 days, HPV within 21 days from ThinPrep vial, Chlamydia/Gonococcus within seven days, Aptima swab within 60 days.
Causes for Rejection
Improper collection, labeling issues, insufficient quantity, expired vial, frozen specimens, older than allowable days for processing, or use of incorrect swab for collection.
