Heroin - Screen with Reflex to Confirmation/Quantitation - Serum or Plasma

Use
This test is useful for general screening to assess drug abuse. A positive result in the screen test is usually followed by confirmatory testing to verify the presence and quantity of heroin-related substances in the specimen. It is a helpful tool in toxicology to detect and confirm heroin use, which is important in both clinical and forensic settings.
Special Instructions
Ensure to separate serum or plasma from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection. Use an ARUP Standard Transport Tube for transferring serum or plasma. Multiple specimens are required if several tests are ordered simultaneously, as this test is not performed at ARUP.
Limitations
The test is not FDA-cleared or approved and is performed at a non-ARUP laboratory, specifically NMS Labs. It is important to note that due to 6-MAM's instability, samples that are not frozen might show reduced concentrations compared to those present at the time of collection. Room temperature stability is limited to 48 hours, refrigerated samples are stable for 2 weeks, and frozen samples are stable for up to 1 month.
