Use
Herpes Virus 8 by Immunohistochemistry is a technical (stain-and-return) service used to detect HHV‑8 (Human Herpesvirus 8) infection in tissue or cell specimens prepared as formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) blocks or cell blocks. It aids in diagnostic evaluation by pathologists when HHV‑8–associated pathology (e.g., Kaposi sarcoma) is suspected.
Special Instructions
Specimens must be formalin-fixed (10% neutral buffered formalin) and paraffin embedded (cells in cellblock). Submit tissue block or a minimum of 5 unstained (3‑ to 5‑micron) positively charged slides (minimum 2 slides) using ARUP transport kit #47808. Do not oven bake precut slides. Ship at room temperature or refrigerated, use cooled containers in summer. Stability ambient and refrigerated indefinitely; frozen unacceptable. Submit via electronic request or use ARUP IHC Stain Form (#32978) if unable to order electronically.
Limitations
Performed as a stain-and‑return technical service only—not a diagnostic opinion. Unacceptable specimens include non-representative tissue or depleted specimens. Frozen specimens are unacceptable; prolonged heat exposure may damage sections.
