Herpesvirus 6 Antibody, IgM by IFA, Serum

Use
This test is used to detect IgM antibodies to Human Herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6). It can aid in the diagnosis of HHV-6 infection, particularly in immunocompromised patients. HHV-6 infects T-lymphocytes and is known as an etiologic agent of exanthema subitum. Significant rises or seroconversion of IgG and IgM titers indicates serologic evidence of acute infection or reactivation.
Special Instructions
The specimen must be collected in either a plain red or serum separator tube. It is important to note that this test is not performed at ARUP, thus separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.
Limitations
The test was developed and its analytical performance characteristics have been determined by Quest Diagnostics. It has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. Its performance is validated under CLIA regulations and it is utilized for clinical purposes. Interpretation of antibody titers must consider that rises in titers can occur during infection with other viruses.
