Inhibin
Use
Inhibin is a dimeric glycoprotein consisting of alpha and beta subunits that is mainly produced in the gonads. It regulates follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) secretion through negative feedback mechanisms with paracrine and autocrine actions on gonads and adrenal glands. Inhibin is highly expressed in sex cord stromal tumors, including ovarian granulosa cell tumors (GCT) and Sertoli-Leydig cell tumors, where it serves as a key marker for diagnosis and prognosis.

Limitations
Specimens not fixed in 10% NBF or B plus will be rejected. The test's effectiveness depends on proper specimen fixation and slide preparation. Fresh tissues must be fixed promptly and properly to ensure test accuracy. Tissue samples stored for too long or improperly may result in inaccurate or invalid results.

Collection Instructions
Fixative should be at a 20:1 fixative to tissue ratio, 10% neutral buffered formalin (NBF) for 6-72 hours (48-72 hours preferred).

Specimens must be fixed in 10% NBF or B plus. All other fixatives will be rejected.
