Leukocyte Lysosomal Enzyme Screen

Use
The Leukocyte Lysosomal Enzyme Screen test is used to assess enzyme activities related to various lysosomal storage disorders. It involves measuring enzymatic activity levels that, when abnormal, can indicate conditions such as Gaucher disease, Fabry disease, and Niemann-Pick disease among others. This helps in diagnosing lysosomal storage diseases that can affect various body systems.
Special Instructions
Specimens should be collected Monday through Thursday only, using Lavender (K2 or K3EDTA) or Green (sodium or lithium heparin) tubes. Patient history form is required to accompany the specimen. Due to time sensitivity, specimens must be received at the performing laboratory within 24 hours of collection.
Limitations
This test is not performed at ARUP Laboratories. Specimens must be sent directly to the performing laboratory within the specified time frame to ensure validity. Results may vary based on sample quality, and delays during transportation can affect results. Additionally, inappropriate temperatures during transport can lead to sample rejection.
