Lipid Panel with Ratios
Use
A lipid panel with ratios assesses cardiovascular disease risk by measuring concentrations of total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol (calculated), triglycerides, along with calculation of Cholesterol/HDL and LDL/HDL ratios, and non-HDL cholesterol. These metrics are used to identify hyperlipidemia and stratify patients for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk. LDL cholesterol may be calculated via the Friedewald formula or other methods when triglycerides are ≤400 mg/dL; if triglycerides exceed that threshold, a direct LDL measurement may be reflexed.

Limitations
When triglyceride levels are greater than 400 mg/dL, calculated LDL cholesterol may be inaccurate; in such cases, a direct LDL cholesterol measurement may be required. Calculated LDL-C using the Friedewald equation has limitations in certain populations and lipid distributions.
