Lymphocyte Antigen and Mitogen Proliferation Panel

Use
The Lymphocyte Antigen and Mitogen Proliferation Panel is used to evaluate patients with suspected immunodeficiency diseases, including severe combined immunodeficiency. It tests lymphocyte proliferation in response to antigens such as phytohemagglutinin, concanavalin A, pokeweed mitogen, Candida antigen, and tetanus antigen. The test results are presented as counts per minute (CPM) of stimulated versus control lymphocytes and a stimulation index (SI), providing insight into the functional responsiveness of a patient's lymphocytes.
Special Instructions
Patient and control specimens must be collected within 48 hours of test performance. A control specimen from a healthy individual collected under similar conditions is required. For patients who are lymphopenic, collection of a larger blood volume (10 mL) is recommended to increase the likelihood of isolating sufficient lymphocytes.
Limitations
Abnormal results should be interpreted with caution if a client control sample is not submitted, as results may be affected by artifacts during specimen collection, transport, and handling. The test is not suitable for patients younger than 3 months unless there is a clinical history of candidiasis. Specimens that are refrigerated or frozen, or those collected in yellow ACD solution B, are not acceptable.

Collection Instructions
