The test requires a formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded specimen, ideally submitted in a tissue transport kit (ARUP supply #47808). Precut slides should not be oven baked, and excessive heat must be avoided during transport. The test is not performed at ARUP Laboratories; separate specimens are required if multiple tests are ordered.

Limitations

This test is performed as a 'Stain and Return' without interpretation, meaning the test results must be interpreted by a qualified pathologist outside of ARUP Laboratories. It is important to note that specimens with non-representative tissue types or those that are depleted will be rejected. Additionally, the test cannot be performed on frozen tissues and does not accommodate oven-baked slides. Since the test is outsourced, the processing time can vary based on the non-ARUP laboratory's schedule and capacity.
