Use
The Molybdenum Quantitative test is used to detect and measure the concentration of molybdenum in serum or plasma. Molybdenum is an essential trace element important for the function of certain enzymes, and its quantification can be important for assessing nutritional status, diagnosing deficiencies, or monitoring exposure to molybdenum from environmental or occupational sources.
Special Instructions
Specimens must be collected in certified metal-free containers to prevent contamination. Elevated results due to environmental contamination should be confirmed with samples collected in trace metal free conditions. The test is not performed at ARUP but is sent to NMS Labs for analysis.
Limitations
The test measures molybdenum concentration using Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry, which may be affected by environmental contamination at the time of collection. Unexpectedly high results should be confirmed by retesting under controlled conditions. This test is not cleared or approved by the FDA, and results should be interpreted in the context of the patient's clinical status and history of exposure to molybdenum.
