Use
Multiple myeloma 1 (MUM1) is normally expressed in plasma cells, activated B cells, and activated T cells. Translocation to the Ig heavy chain locus is commonly observed in multiple myeloma causing consistent MUM1 expression. MUM1 is also found in a range of lymphoid neoplasms, including a proportion of diffuse B cell lymphomas, Reed Sternberg cells in Hodgkin's disease, and neoplastic T cells. The test is intended for detecting MUM1 expression in these conditions, aiding in the diagnosis and research of lymphoid neoplasms.
Special Instructions
Technical component only. Pathologist read not included. Specimens may be fixed in formalin for 24-72 hours by collection sites, then transferred to 70% ethanol and stored at 2-8°C for longer term storage if needed. Samples must be tested within 3 months after placing in ethanol. Positively charged glass slides required to prevent background staining and tissue loss. Slides should be unbaked.
Limitations
The performance of this assay has not been established in tissues other than those collected according to the specified procedures. Specimens must be fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin (NBF) or B plus; all other fixatives will be rejected. The test does not include pathologist interpretation, which must be arranged separately.
