This assay aids in the diagnosis of Mycoplasma genitalium (Mgen) urogenital infections in both male and female patients. Mgen is a sexually transmitted pathogen linked to conditions including nongonococcal urethritis in men, cervicitis and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in women.3 In women, prevalence among cervicitis cases ranges from approximately 10%–30% and up to 22% of PID cases, while in men it is implicated in 15%–25% of nongonococcal urethritis. NAATs including this rRNA-based test are preferred methods due to the organism’s difficulty to culture and detect via microscopy.4,5
