This assay employs highly sensitive real‑time PCR to detect Mycoplasma pneumoniae DNA in clinical specimens. A positive result should be interpreted within the clinical context as PCR may detect non‑viable organisms, and a negative result does not fully exclude infection at undetectable levels.
