Nickel, Urine
Use
Measurement of nickel in urine is used to assess exposure to nickel. This test is not recommended for asymptomatic individuals or those with a low likelihood of exposure. Elevated levels might suggest contamination from skin or the collection process, especially if non-certified trace element-free containers are used.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
Results can be contaminated by non-trace element-free containers, blood, fecal material, or urine collected within 48 hours of gadolinium-containing contrast media administration. Acid-preserved urine is unacceptable. Elevated results might be due to contamination rather than true nickel exposure.
