Use
Serologic detection of recent or past parvovirus B19 infection. The presence of IgM antibodies suggests recent infection, while detection of IgG antibodies only suggests past exposure. IgG and IgM may be present early in illness and peak within 30 days. Because IgG can persist for years, acute infection is diagnosed by the detection of IgM antibodies. Specimens collected prior to seroconversion may yield negative IgM or IgG results; specimens collected after IgM has declined may yield negative IgM results. Follow‑up testing of convalescent samples may help. Performance not established on neonates or immunocompromised patients. Presence of antinuclear antibodies may cause equivocal or positive IgM. Epstein‑Barr virus positive specimens may cause equivocal or positive IgM. Not validated for matrices other than serum.
