Use
The Pharmacogenetics Panel: Psychotropics, with GeneDose Access is used to assess genetic risk of abnormal drug metabolism for a range of psychotropic drugs. This is determined by analyzing polymorphisms in genes that encode for enzymes, such as CYP2B6, CYP2C19, CYP2C9, CYP2D6, and others, that affect the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of therapeutic agents. It aids in optimizing drug therapy by predicting drug response and assisting in drug selection and dosage decisions, providing clinicians with valuable information for personalized medicine approaches.
Special Instructions
Informed consent is required for genetic testing, particularly for patients from New York. For specimen collection, use lavender (K2EDTA), pink (K2EDTA), or yellow (ACD solution A or B) tubes to collect whole blood. Ensure samples are transported refrigerated and note that plasma, serum, or heparin-containing specimens are unacceptable. Additionally, access to GeneDose database is provided for further interpretation.
Limitations
Only the targeted genetic variants included in this panel will be detected. Variability in the results may be influenced by factors such as genetic and nongenetic conditions not covered by this test. The evaluation cannot determine if the sample had multiple CYP2D6 gene copies, which may impact metabolism status. Accurate phenotype prediction may be limited by rare genetic variations or the inability to distinguish between one or two copies of certain CYP variants.
