PLAP is a membrane-associated sialoglycoprotein enzyme normally present within the placenta during the third trimester of gestation and fetal/neonatal testes and thymus. Abnormal expression can be detected in endocervix, fallopian tube, and ovarian tumors as well as germ cell tumors.
