Platelet Antibody (Glycoprotein) Plasma/Eluate
Use
This test is used for detecting platelet antibodies in plasma and eluate samples, which are associated with autoimmune thrombocytopenia (ITP). It involves a qualitative assay to identify autoreactive antibodies targeting platelet glycoproteins such as GP IIb/IIIa, GP Ib/IX, and GP Ia/IIa. The presence of such antibodies may support a diagnosis of ITP, although results must be interpreted cautiously as they cannot completely rule out the condition.
Special Instructions
Specimens must be collected and shipped on the same day, from Sunday to Wednesday only. Platelet transfusions given within 4 days of specimen collection may affect results.
Limitations
This test is not performed at ARUP, requiring separate specimens for multiple test orders. The test, developed by Versiti Wisconsin, Inc., is not FDA cleared or approved but is conducted for clinical purposes under CLIA certification. Test results should be interpreted carefully as antibodies detected may not always correlate with disease presence.
