Use
May aid in the diagnosis of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) by assessing prion-related markers including qualitative detection of the causative agent via Real‑Time Quaking‑Induced Conversion (RT‑QuIC) and indirect neurodegenerative indicators.
Special Instructions
Change effective as of 10/20/25: Refer to 3019310 in the October Hotline. Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered. Repeat testing should be collected no sooner than 2 weeks following last encounter. Send NPDPSC Test Request Form with order.

Collection Instructions
Discard first 2 mL of CSF; transfer 2 mL CSF, avoid blood contamination, freeze at –20 °C within 20 minutes of collection.
Patient Preparation
Patient must be 12 years of age or older.
Causes for Rejection
Cloudy or pink specimens may result in partial results; blood contamination may affect results.
