Prolonged Clot Time Reflexive Profile

Use
The Prolonged Clot Time Reflexive Profile is used to determine the cause of a prolonged prothrombin time (PT) or activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT). A faculty pathologist personally directs each stage of testing to completion, providing a comprehensive interpretation. This profile is particularly valuable when the patient has a suspected or known coagulation disorder or presents with a clear bleeding tendency.
Special Instructions
Submit the Prolonged Clot Time Reflexive Profile Patient History Form with the test order to allow optimal interpretation. Collection requires at least five light blue (sodium citrate) tubes. Specimens must be separated and critical storage conditions include freezing at -20°C. The test includes condition-specific testing directed by a pathologist, starting with D-Dimer, Fibrinogen, and Lupus Anticoagulant Reflex Panel. Reflexive testing may be ordered based on initial results.
Limitations
This test is designed to evaluate prolonged clotting times rather than to address all possible causes of a bleeding disorder. It does not detect all bleeding disorders, as some may not be associated with prolonged clotting times. Additionally, the presence of rheumatoid factor may lead to false positives in the D-Dimer test, and it should not be used to rule out venous thromboembolism. The test is not FDA cleared or approved and was developed as a laboratory-developed test (LDT), performed in a CLIA-certified lab for clinical purposes.

Collection Instructions
Collect at least five light blue (sodium citrate) tubes. Transfer five 1 mL aliquots of platelet-poor plasma to transport tubes.
Storage Instructions
CRITICAL FROZEN. Separate specimens must be submitted if additional test codes are ordered.
Causes for Rejection
Anything other than sodium citrated plasma. Specimens containing anticoagulant medications, clotted or hemolyzed specimens.
