Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) protein marker is a cell membrane antigen that is highly expressed in clear cell RCC. This marker is especially helpful in distinguishing RCC from other malignancies with similar histological features, such as oncocytomas and urothelial carcinomas. Technical component only. Pathologist read not included.

Limitations
This test covers only the technical component; a pathologist's interpretation is not included. Specimens fixed using non-standard fixatives apart from 10% NBF or B plus will be rejected. Stability of fresh tissues is limited to 72 hours only, requiring timely processing.

Fixative should be at a 20:1 fixative to tissue ratio, using 10% neutral buffered formalin for 6-72 hours (48-72 hours preferred).
