Use

This test detects ROS1 gene rearrangements in solid tumors, particularly useful for predicting tumor response to targeted therapy in non-small cell lung carcinomas. It identifies rearrangements involving the ROS1 gene but does not determine the translocation partner or variant. ROS1 rearrangements occur in about 1% of non-small cell lung carcinomas, making this test important for identifying patients who might benefit from targeted treatments.

Special Instructions

Include surgical pathology report. If sending multiple specimens, indicate which one should be tested or provide separate orders for each specimen. A Pathologist Block Selection Fee will be applied if the ARUP pathologist chooses the specimen for testing. Contact ARUP Client Services for tissue transport kits.

Limitations

The test does not identify the translocation partner involved in the rearrangement, nor can it detect specific variants of the ROS1 gene. It may miss cryptic rearrangements and is designed to detect positive signals in 15% or more of tumor cells. The test's limit of detection was established with normal and known positive samples; it provides 100% detection of known ROS1 rearrangements but may not identify all possible rearrangements.
