Use
The Serine Proteinase 3 (PR3) Antibody test is used, in conjunction with other autoantibody tests (such as ANCA and MPO), to aid in differentiating suspected Wegener granulomatosis from other vasculitides. It may also be useful for monitoring patients who have PR3 antibodies. Approximately 85% of patients with a C-ANCA pattern by IFA possess antibodies specific for PR3.
Special Instructions
The test is conducted every day from Sunday to Saturday. It requires the separation of serum from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection. The preferred specimen type is serum, collected in a serum separator tube.
Limitations
Plasma, urine, or other body fluids are considered unacceptable conditions for this test. Contaminated, hemolyzed, or severely lipemic specimens are also reasons for rejection. It is essential to avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles to maintain specimen integrity.
