Silver Quantitative, Serum or Plasma

Use
This test is used to measure the concentration of silver in serum or plasma. It can be useful in cases of suspected silver exposure or toxicity, such as occupational exposure or the use of silver-containing medical products like Argyrol or Silvadene. Silver levels in the body must be monitored during treatment to ensure safety and efficacy.
Special Instructions
Specimens must be collected in certified metal-free containers to prevent contamination. Care should be taken to separate specimens from cells as soon as possible, preferably within 2 hours after collection, and protect them from light to ensure the accuracy of the test.
Limitations
The presence of elevated silver levels may be caused by environmental contamination at the time of specimen collection. Therefore, results should be interpreted with caution and it is recommended to verify unexpected high results with a second specimen collected in a trace metal-free container. The test has not been FDA cleared or approved and is performed under the requirements of CLIA.
