Use
This test is utilized for evaluating patients exhibiting signs and symptoms of connective tissue diseases, specifically when the antinuclear antibodies test is positive. It is particularly useful in diagnosing diseases associated with Sjogren syndrome or lupus erythematosus. The test is not suitable for patients without demonstrable antinuclear antibodies.
Special Instructions
The test is always performed and some conditions like gross hemolysis, lipemia, and heat-treated specimens will cause rejection. Specimen stability information and collection instructions are crucial for successful testing.
Limitations
Anti-SS-B/La antibodies have limited association with Sjogren's syndrome diagnosis when SS-A/Ro antibodies are absent. Also, the presence of isolated anti-SS-B/La antibodies has a low positive predictive value for Sjogren syndrome. The test has limited utility in patients lacking antinuclear antibodies.
