Use
This test is recommended for the assessment of stiff-person disorders, whether they manifest in classical or focal forms. This includes symptoms like stiffness, spasms, hyperekplexia, limb rigidity, myoclonus or limb dystonia, regardless of the presence or absence of encephalopathy.
Special Instructions
If a reflex test is performed, additional charges and CPT codes may apply. It's crucial to transfer serum to a plastic tube if a gel-barrier tube isn't used, and avoid freezing the gel-barrier tube.
Limitations
A negative result doesn't exclude stiff-person spectrum disorder. Interpretation of low GAD65 titers should consider possible connections to other autoimmune conditions causing neurological symptoms. The test is developed and its performance evaluated by Labcorp, but it lacks FDA clearance or approval.
