Use
This test first performs a rapid antigen detection for Group A Streptococcus (Streptococcus pyogenes) to quickly identify the likely cause of pharyngitis. A negative rapid antigen result triggers a reflex to throat culture for confirmation, improving diagnostic sensitivity and ensuring accurate detection.
Special Instructions
This is a true reflex; if the rapid antigen is negative, a culture is performed at additional charge.
Limitations
Rapid antigen tests have limited sensitivity and may yield false negatives; therefore, negative results reflex to culture. Culture requires successful sample collection and growth, which may take longer and may still miss organisms under certain conditions.
