Synaptophysin
Use
Synaptophysin is a membrane glycoprotein expressed in the synaptic vesicles of neurons and neuroendocrine cells. It is primarily used in pathology to identify neuroendocrine tumors, including neuroblastomas, small cell carcinomas, and pheochromocytomas, as these tumors typically show strong synaptophysin expression. This marker also helps differentiate neuroendocrine tumors from other types of malignancies with similar histological features.
