Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH), Beta Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) stimulates thyroid growth and production of thyroid hormones. TSH-producing cells constitute approximately 5% of the cells of the normal anterior pituitary. Antibodies to TSH are used in a panel to subclassify pituitary adenomas. This test is part of a panel of immunostains used in the classification of pituitary adenomas, helping in the diagnosis and characterization of specific types of tumors that may affect the pituitary gland.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
This test does not include pathologist interpretation, only technical performance of the stain. Interpretation should be performed in the context of the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic tests by a qualified pathologist. Age of a paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity and stability thresholds vary among published literature. The charge of glass slides can be affected by environmental factors and may alter slide staining. Best practices for storage include minimizing exposure to high humidity, heat, and plastics to ensure proper slide surface chemistry, reducing inconsistent staining.
