Use
The Toxoplasma gondii by Immunohistochemistry test is used for the detection of Toxoplasma gondii in tissue or cell specimens. It utilizes immunohistochemistry staining techniques to identify the presence of the parasite in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded samples. The test is suitable for aiding in the diagnosis of toxoplasmosis, particularly in patients with clinical indications of the infection. The immunohistochemistry method provides a means to visually confirm the presence of T. gondii in suspect tissue samples, which can be crucial for accurate diagnosis and subsequent treatment decisions.
Special Instructions
This test is designed as a stain and return (technical) service only. An electronic request submission is required for test ordering. If electronic ordering is not available, an ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form must be submitted along with an ARUP client number. Specimens must be protected from excessive heat during transport, and proper shipping conditions should be maintained, especially during warmer months.
Limitations
This test has been developed and its performance characteristics determined by ARUP Laboratories, but it has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. It is conducted in a CLIA certified laboratory for clinical purposes. Factors such as inadequate specimen volume, inappropriate specimen type, and inadequate fixation or embedding of specimens can lead to test rejection. Additionally, specimens that do not contain representative tissue or are depleted may not yield accurate results.

Collection Instructions
Formalin fix (10 percent neutral buffered formalin) and paraffin embed specimen. Protect paraffin block and/or slides from excessive heat. Transport tissue block or 5 unstained (3-5 micron thick sections), positively charged slides.
Storage Instructions
Room temperature or refrigerated. Ship in cooled container during summer months.
Causes for Rejection
Specimens submitted with non-representative tissue type or depleted specimens.
