Use
This test is used to quantitatively measure the levels of tramadol and its metabolite, O-desmethyltramadol, in urine. It is primarily employed to confirm the presence of the drug in the context of medical monitoring rather than forensic purposes. The test helps in assessing compliance, detecting potential drug misuse, and assisting in therapeutic drug monitoring to ensure appropriate dosing for effective pain management.
Special Instructions
Preferred test for confirming presumptive results of tramadol presence; not intended for initial screening. For initial screenings, the Tramadol, Urine Screen with Reflex to Quantitation is recommended. Interpretive questions should be directed to the laboratory.
Limitations
This test is not valid for forensic use. It is designed for medical purposes only. The presence of only metabolite(s) may indicate the use of the parent drug during the prior week. Inappropriate specimen collection timing relative to drug administration can result in false negatives. Diluted or adulterated urine, as well as test limitations, can also lead to unexpected results. Results should be interpreted within the context of the entire clinical picture.
