Trichomonas vaginalis by Transcription-Mediated Amplification (TMA)

Use
This test detects Trichomonas vaginalis infection in patients presenting with symptoms of vaginal infection. Trichomonas vaginalis is a common sexually transmitted infection that can cause vaginitis. This test provides a qualitative result indicating the presence or absence of T. vaginalis RNA, helping in the clinical diagnosis of trichomoniasis.
Special Instructions
Patients must be 14 years of age or older for swab or ThinPrep collection. Specimens should be collected using specific Aptima collection kits to ensure sample integrity and accurate results.
Limitations
A negative result does not completely rule out infection with Trichomonas vaginalis. Infection may still be possible, and results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings and other diagnostic information. This test is not valid for forensic purposes or the evaluation of suspected sexual abuse.

Collection Instructions
Collect vaginal specimen with pink swab from Aptima MultiTest Swab Collection kit. Swab should be placed in Swab Specimen Transport Tube and shaft broken off at scoreline.
Causes for Rejection
Large white swab for cleaning endocervix is unacceptable. Specimen in any transport media other than indicated is unacceptable.
