Use
This test is used to quantify the levels of Reverse Triiodothyronine (RT3) in the blood. Although it is generally not recommended for routine evaluation of thyroid disorders, it may be considered in certain populations, such as pregnant women, to assess thyroid function more accurately. It helps in understanding the thyroid status of patients where regular tests may not be conclusive.
Special Instructions
The test requires specific patient preparation including proper sample collection and handling. Ensure that serum specimens clot completely at room temperature before processing. Prompt separation of serum or plasma from cells within two hours of collection is crucial for accurate results.
Limitations
The test has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, but its performance characteristics have been determined by ARUP Laboratories. Interpretation should be made in conjunction with clinical findings as reference intervals for individuals below 18 years are not established. Analytical performance could be affected by improper sample handling or degraded specimens.
