Use
An extra copy of chromosome 21 is the cause of Down syndrome. An increased risk is seen with the increase in maternal age. Testing is performed by an affiliate laboratory. This test is often used in prenatal diagnostics and is related to women's health concerns.

Limitations
Specimen rejection criteria include clotted specimens, exposure to extreme temperatures, anticoagulants that are toxic to cells, and insufficient number of cells. Specimen stability is 72 hours, and specimens should be shipped ambient or refrigerated, not frozen.
