Clinical Use

Measure total tryptase to confirm mast cell activation in diseases such as mastocytosis, anaphylaxis, urticaria, and asthma. Useful in the prognosis of systemic mastocytosis. This test is not generally used acutely except where diagnosis is unclear.

Limitations
This test measures total tryptase and does not distinguish between the alpha and beta protein types.
